The first thing you notice is the creamy body and smooth mouthfeel that resembles a perfectly pulled espresso. The color is hallucinogenic bright green. It has sweet aromas redolent of fresh young grass, young bamboo, raw sugar, and chlorophyll. It has the ethereal vegetal notes of just-picked asparagus and sweet peas on the vine, balanced by earthier, umami-laden undertones of perfectly grilled mushrooms. Mid-palate shows "essence of fresh," a real floral lift, and layers of meaty richness.
The catechin-rich, subtly astringent treble notes on the finish bear remarkable similarity to those of a great Burgundy. The finish is long; it keeps delivering these sweet flavors long after it's swallowed. Turns all previous expectations and experience with matcha on its head--it earns a perfect 100 score.
Origin: Nishio, Aichi Prefecture (near Nagoya), Japan. Elevated growing region, very pristine environment, incredible terroir. One of the rarest, and most delightful, epicurean experiences in the world.
HOW TO MAKE
I usually buy my matcha directly from Japan through other well-regarded online tea shops. I was skeptical that there would be a noticeable difference between this matcha and other high-quality matchas, but I managed to buy this one on sale and now I'm a believer. This elixir is incredibly smooth with a beautiful flavor arc, and it's dang DELICIOUS. Not sure if it's *twice* as good as matchas that are half the cost (which are already at the upper end of the usual price range), but it's definitely a step up and I have not found anything like this at lower price points. I seriously wish my caffeine tolerance allowed me to drink this more often than just once a day.
(I am completely new to matcha. I ordered a flight of Blends 97, 99, 100, and Daphne to try them out; so these are the impressions of someone with no previous matcha experience. I gave them all 5 stars, because they're all good; my preferences come down to personal taste, I think.)
Now that that's out of the way...
Blend 100 is by far my favorite of the four. It's very, very smooth - not that the others aren't, but this is on a whole different level. The taste is intensely green and alive - fresh sugar snap peas, baby turnip greens, the smell of a garden after it rains.
The finish is creamy and sweet: seriously, it makes me think of sweet cream infused with fresh peas; and it just goes on and on. I will definitely be ordering more of this one!
I'm relatively new to Matcha, but I've tried several brands so I feel I can tell what's good and what's not. I'm so glad I stumbled upon Breakaway Matcha! I was hesitant because yes it's pricey. You won't be disappointed. This is unlike anything I've tried. It's amazing, it's exceptional...its life changing! Once you've experienced it there is no going back to what you've had in the past.
I'm in love.
Matcha has been a part of my morning meditation ritual and one of the best additions to my practice is Blend 100. A koicha of this is delightfully creamy and smooth blend has no bitterness. The fresh grassy aroma transports me back to quiet, unhurried, and lazy summer afternoon. Simply Nirvana.
I feel like I've discovered some sort of magical elixir....this is perhaps the best drink in the world for body, mind and soul. Never before have I had so much energy or experienced so many creative thoughts or felt so alive! Completely addicted.
Provides a lot of energy and is just the right amount of natural sweetness
Blend 100 is my favorite way to start each day...and my favorite way to regroup in the late afternoon. It is pure, sweet, smooth umami with no sharp edges to pay attention to. It is like floating on a green umami cloud.
Indescribable experience. Lemony floral tsunami of divine goodness. You will not regret spending more to try this. A 4g jar in a flight is simply not enough. There's a reason for the extra price hike between the 99 and 100. Blows my mind with every sip, and it seems the more I drink of this matcha, the better it gets. Must try!!!
We have tried everything on the market and nothing compares. Breakaway Matcha makes life better.
